Peugeot is a company based in France who has been producing cars since 1889 and is now the second biggest car manufacturer in Europe. In order to expand the company, Peugeot took over the auto-maker known as Citroen in the 1970s who were struggling at the time. They acquired Citroen from the French government who also threw in some extra operating cash. Following on from this, Peugeot expanded further when they took control of the European division of Chrysler. However this extra expansion proved to be a bit of a strain on Peugeot who suffered as a result. Since then, Peugeot have managed to continue to be a major player in car manufacturing and they have also taken on a proud role in racing and motorsports.

It was also a Peugeot which won the French Grand Prix in Dieppe, 1912. Their early success continued and they went on to win twice in Indianapolis between the years 1916 and 1919.
